ABOUT THE LOMBOK 2015 CONFERENCE

Conference Organizers

This conference buildings on the first Sustainable Tourism Symposium organized by the University of Mataram (UNRAM) in July 2014 to initiate the expansion of tourism studies on the island of Lombok, Indonesia.  It is also the eighth in the Tourism Outlook Conference series, organized by the Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia, and follows a very successful conference in Sri Lanka in August 2014. The conference also incorporates the fourth conference in the Tropical Coastal and Island Tourism series, sponsored by Northern Arizona University and the International Geographical Union's Tourism Commission.

The theme of the Lombok conference is Balancing Development and Sustainability in Tourism Destinations and focuses on the challenge of growth and conservation in communities seeking a better future that includes tourism .  The island of Lombok, Indonesia, with its diversity of natural environments and social  contexts, provides an ideal venue to address these issues.
